We are proud to announce that our lemur conservation work has been featured in the online booklet "On Safari with Rae Safaris," published by Worth Wild Africa (WWA).
This feature is a wonderful recognition of our long-term dedication to protecting Madagascar's unique and endangered wildlife. It highlights for an international audience of safari enthusiasts and conservation supporters the critical work we do on the frontlines of lemur conservation .
A Partnership for Practical Support
Our collaboration with Worth Wild Africa is built on a shared mission to protect biodiversity. WWA, a registered non-profit organization, distinguishes itself by ensuring that 100% of donations from its supporters go directly to specified projects, maximizing the impact of every contribution .
This partnership has already borne fruit for our initiatives. We are immensely grateful that a recent WWA frontline appeal successfully raised a large amount of fund to provide GERP with essential photographic, film equipment and solar panel kit. This vital equipment will significantly enhance our ability to monitor and study lemurs in their natural habitat and to develop educational and promotional materials that raise global awareness about their plight, and also provide energy for on field work.
The Heart of Our Work: Protecting Madagascar's Natural Heritage
Founded in 1994 by Malagasy primatologists, GERP has been at the forefront of the fight to conserve lemurs and their habitats for decades . Our work is more critical than ever, as 98% of all lemur species are threatened with extinction, with 31% considered critically endangered .
Our multifaceted approach includes:
Scientific Research and Discovery: We are renowned for our scientific studies and have played a key role in discovering new lemur species, including Madame Berthe's mouse lemur and Gerp's mouse lemur .
Habitat Management: Since 2008, we have managed the Maromizaha forest, a 1,880-hectare protected area in eastern Madagascar that is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, Manombo and recently Mahadrodroka.
Community Engagement: We work closely with local communities surrounding our 3 Protected Areas, supporting education by donating school uniforms, funding teacher salaries, and offering students interactive learning experiences like guided forest visits and tree-planting lessons, and providing Income Generating Activities.
National Advocacy: GERP was the initial organizer of Madagascar's National Lemur Day, an event now officially overseen by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, which has grown into a major national and international awareness campaign .
A Shared Vision for the Future
Being featured in "On Safari with Rae Safaris" allows us to share our passion and our mission with a broader audience. We extend our deepest gratitude to Worth Wild Africa and Rae Safaris for this platform and for their tangible support.
This collaboration underscores a powerful truth: protecting Madagascar's irreplaceable biodiversity is a global effort. Through partnerships like these, we can ensure a safer future for lemurs and the habitats they call home.
