Empowering Women, Protecting Lemurs, Restoring Forests

This December, we are launching our 2026 End-of-Year Fundraising Campaign in partnership with Conservation Allies.

To mark this special giving season, every dollar donated to GERP between December 1 and December 31, 2026, will be matched 1:1 up to $5,000 doubling the impact of your support for lemurs and local forest communities in Madagascar.

As part of this year's campaign, we are excited to premiere a special short film titled "When Thread Protects Nature" (Quand le fil protège la nature), exploring how women's economic independence directly drives forest protection across our Maromizaha and Efatsy Manombo landscapes.

What to Expect in the Short Film

The story follows the journey of local women in our partner embroidery associations such as "Solidarité Féminine" in Maromizaha and VARIZATSY in Anivorano, Manombo, showing how sustainable art and collective action turn community members into active guardians of their natural heritage.

Life-Changing Testimonials: Hear directly from women about their lives before and after joining the embroidery associations, showcasing the impact on household stability, children's education, and financial independence.

Craft in Action: Experience behind-the-scenes footage of the artisans creating intricate, nature-inspired embroidery that generates sustainable income without forest extraction.

Thriving Biodiversity: Journey through the high-canopy humid forests of Maromizaha and Manombo to witness thriving lemur populations including recent births of critically endangered species like the Black-and-white Ruffed Lemur (Varecia variegata editorum).

Why It Matters

At GERP, we believe that long-term conservation succeeds when local communities lead the way. When women gain economic tools, training, and leadership opportunities, forest protection becomes a shared value that benefits both human well-being and Madagascar's irreplaceable biodiversity.
