Earlier this September, GERP had the honor of welcoming Worth Wild Africa and their Japanese Veterinary group during their visit to Madagascar. Their journey was not only a trip to admire Madagascar’s exceptional wildlife, but also a unique opportunity to discover our conservation work both in our headquarters in Antananarivo and in the field at Maromizaha.
On September 11th, the group visited our office, where we presented GERP’s mission, achievements, and ongoing projects for lemur conservation. We were thrilled by their enthusiasm and deep interest in our work. Worth Wild Africa expressed their strong commitment to supporting GERP, particularly through initiatives that will strengthen our conservation efforts and improve the welfare of lemurs.
A few days later, on September 15th, the group traveled to Maromizaha Forest, one of the most preserved and biodiverse rainforests in eastern Madagascar. They were amazed by the beauty of this unique ecosystem, the recovery of the forest, and the positive changes in the lives of the local communities since GERP began managing the protected area. Thanks to community engagement and strong conservation measures, and the support of all our technical and financial partners, Maromizaha has recorded zero fires since 2018, ensuring a safe future for the lemurs and their habitat.
We are deeply grateful for Worth Wild Africa’s dedication and support. Their engagement strengthens our mission of ensuring “thriving lemur populations in their natural habitats,” while also improving the livelihoods of the communities who live alongside them. Thanks to Worth Wild Africa’s generous support, we will soon begin the construction of a Lemur Health Care Center, a vital step forward in protecting and caring for these unique primates. In addition, new equipment and solar energy kits for Maromizaha will further enhance our fieldwork and help us preserve this exceptional forest more effectively.
Together, we move forward with hope, determination, and shared passion to protect lemurs for generations to come.
